A History of Cassidy Whiskey

In 1784, John Cassidy opened Monasterevin's Cassidy Whiskey Distillery.

One hundred years later in 1884, the distillery was reported to be producing 250,000 gallons of the best Irish whiskey every year.

It has been said that "Cassidy Whiskey was the best whiskey in the country" and was exported to London by canal boats from Monasterevin to Dublin and then shipped to England from Dublin Port.

A brewery was added to the distillery in 1860 for the production of beer.

However, in 1918 the business went into liquidation and in 1934 after 150 years of distilling Cassidy's Distillery & Brewery closed its doors.
